Tuesday, November 19, 7pm at the Seniors Hall on 4th Street, downtown Kaslo.
Please plan to attend. Your support really helps the board in its mission to provide attainable, secure and accessible housing for Kaslo and Area D residents.
It costs only $5 annually to become a member or renew your membership and there are many ways for you to do that (see the information, at right, for a way that is convenient for you.) You can also renew your membership (or become a first-time member) upon your arrival at the AGM.
The Kaslo Housing Society is the only organization to have successfully constructed affordable housing in our area in the last 30 years. Ten households now have secure and affordable homes. But the Penny Lane Apartments on A Avenue in downtown Kaslo cannot be our last. There is too much need still to be addressed.
Think about your own situation. Will the home you live in now still be suitable in ten or twenty years? Do you wonder if your kids will ever be able to strike out on their own and find an apartment or a decent house to share? Will you or your parents be searching for an assisted living situation in the foreseeable future? Does the dream of owning a modest and affordable house seem completely out of reach?
The only thing for sure is that worrying alone will not create solutions. Over the next few years the KHS board will be looking at a variety of ways to address the lack of attainable housing options. If you’d like to contribute to this effort, consider becoming a KHS director. On November 19 we need to fill four vacancies on our 7-member board. We meet once a month at our office in the Langham, but directors can also attend our meetings via Zoom.
If you’d like to be a part of the next housing project in Kaslo, you only need to become a member and find another member to nominate you. You can do that in advance via email (info@kaslohousingsociety.org) or in person at the AGM.
Hope to see you there!
