About Kaslo Housing Society

Kaslo Housing Society (KHS) is a community-based non-profit housing provider in Kaslo, BC. We recently completed the Penny Lane housing project in partnership with BC Housing and are entering a pivotal phase of growth. With new development opportunities on the horizon, our Board is seeking an Executive Director to strengthen our administrative capacity, oversee current operations, and help position KHS for strategic expansion.

The Role

The Executive Director provides overall operational leadership for KHS, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance, sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and strategic positioning for future housing development.
This is a part-time position (10 hours/week to start) with clear growth potential as the organization expands. The ED reports directly to the Board and supervises two contractors: a Building Manager and a Bookkeeper.

Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership

Oversee day-to-day operations through supervision of the Building Manager and Bookkeeper
Ensure operational activities align with BC Housing agreements and regulatory requirements
Monitor building performance, maintenance planning, and capital repair forecasting
Identify gaps in administrative systems and implement practical improvements
Maintain corporate records and ensure all required filings are completed on time
Ensure compliance with the BC Societies Act and CRA charitable society regulations
Bring operational issues, risks, and recommendations to the Board in a timely, structured way

Financial Stewardship

Support the Treasurer in preparing annual budgets and multi-year financial projections
Review monthly financial reports with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper before Board presentation
Monitor cash flow, reserve balances, and operating stability
Ensure compliance with BC Housing financial reporting requirements
Assist with audit coordination and financial documentation
Research and identify grants, funding programs, and capital opportunities

Growth & Development

Support feasibility research for potential new housing projects
Liaise with BC Housing, municipal representatives, and funding bodies
Help assess organizational readiness and risk exposure for new developments
Document lessons from the Penny Lane project to inform future decisions
Build organizational filing systems that support continuity across Board and staff transitions
Develop and implement policies to protect tenant and staff privacy

Stakeholder & Community Relations

Serve as primary liaison with BC Housing and other funding partners
Maintain positive relationships with tenants, contractors, and community stakeholders
Support communication with local government on housing needs and opportunities
Represent KHS at relevant meetings and events as appropriate

Qualifications

We recognize that strong candidates come from a variety of backgrounds and welcome applications from people with transferable leadership experience.
Preferred qualifications include experience in non-profit leadership, housing, community development, or public administration; familiarity with BC Housing systems; strong financial literacy; experience working with a Board of Directors; experience overseeing contractors or small teams; and strong organizational and communication skills. Grant writing or project development experience is an asset.

Hours & Compensation

$37/hour, 10 hours per week to start. Flexible schedule with hybrid in-person/remote work. Regular availability required for Board meetings and local engagement. The role is expected to grow as the organization expands.
